Welcome
Hey! I’m Sergio Zavala, a first-generation Latino college student studying Computer Science with a concentration in Data Science at California State University, Monterey Bay. I’m passionate about applying machine learning to real-world problems—particularly in areas like education, scientific research, and computer vision.
Growing up near the Monterey Bay Aquarium and fascinated by space from a young age, I’ve always been drawn to exploring “other worlds.” That curiosity led me to Computer Science, where I discovered the power of technology to transform how we understand and interact with our world. Institutions like MBARI and NASA inspired me to pursue projects that combine innovation, science, and impact.
As an NIH GREAT Scholar, I’m currently exploring the intersection of Computer Science and Genomics. Looking ahead, I plan to pursue graduate studies in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, with a focus on Computer Vision, to deepen my impact in the field. I’m also involved in open-source development, full-stack engineering, and building practical systems with real-world applications.
